First, players are given a set of cards face up and can choose to discard one, two or three of the cards. They are then dealt additional cards and must replace the cards they discarded. If the bettor fails to raise, he is referred to as a fold. In the case of a check, a player does not have to bet. The next bettor can bet as much as the bettor who made the first bet.
The showdown is the final round of betting. The bettor who has the best hand wins the pot. The ace of diamonds can be the best hand, as can any hand made from the highest ranking card and lowest ranking card. If both players have the same hands, ties are broken by the highest unmatched card. The highest ranking card remains the kicker.
